The quintessential latin Cocktail, the Margarita was meant for summer! A margarita is a cocktail consisting of tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice often served with salt on the rim of the glass. The drink is served shaken with ice, blended with ice , or without ice. Although it has become acceptable to serve a margarita in a wide variety of glass types, ranging from cocktail and wine glasses to pint glasses and even large schooners, the drink is traditionally served in the eponymous margarita glass, a stepped-diameter variant of a cocktail glass or champagne coupe.
The super fresh and citrusy Mojito is another cocktail that was designed sunning it up!
Traditionally, a Mojito is a cocktail that consists of five ingredients: white rum, sugar, lime juice, soda water, and mint.
When preparing a mojito, fresh lime juice is added to sugar (or to simple syrup) and mint leaves. The mixture is then gently mashed with a muddler. The mint leaves should only be bruised to release the essential oils and should not be shredded. Then rum is added and the mixture is briefly stirred to dissolve the sugar and to lift the mint leaves up from the bottom for better presentation. Finally, the drink is topped with crushed ice and sparkling soda water. Mint leaves and lime wedges are used to garnish the glass.
The MaiTai is a rediculously summery drink! Usually served in some Tahetian style beakers it tastes of somewhere exotic. Although there are disagreements on its origin it is assumed that it was created by Victor J. Bergeron in 1944 at his restaurant, Trader Vic's, in Oakland, California.
The name was allegedly taken from maita'i, the Tahitian word for "good" or "excellence".
